Common Use Cases

Frequently Asked Questions

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute (WPM), which is the average silent reading speed for an adult. Technical or complex text may take longer; simple conversational text may be faster.

Does this tool work with multiple languages?

Yes. The counter works with any Unicode text. Word splitting is whitespace-based, so it handles most Latin-script languages accurately. CJK languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) that don't use spaces between words may show lower word counts than expected.

Is my text saved or stored?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your text is never transmitted to any server. This tool works offline once the page is loaded.

How many characters does Twitter/X allow?

Twitter/X allows 280 characters per tweet. Watch the Characters metric to stay within limits. URLs count as 23 characters regardless of their actual length.

What counts as a sentence?

We count sentence-ending punctuation: periods (.), exclamation marks (!), and question marks (?). Ellipses count as one. Headings or fragments without terminal punctuation are not counted.

What is the ideal blog post word count for SEO?

Most SEO guides recommend 1,500–2,500 words for competitive keywords. Long-form content (3,000+ words) tends to earn more backlinks and rank for more keyword variations. Short posts (500–800 words) work well for news, updates, and low-competition topics.
